Stage: Big Stage
Do you also dream of love for life? One that survives bohemian bohemia, 82 pairs of pants, an empty fridge and a cat's betrayal. A love that does not fade despite war and emigration. Who chooses a small island in the hope that the world will not reach her there.
The show is inspired by the true story of two artists — Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore, who decided not to be passive during the German occupation of Jersey. It is a story of courage that begins with the smallest gesture, of art that can be opposition, and of love that can survive everything. Their story will be told by ten actresses.
— The performance was staged at the 58th INTERNATIONAL THEATRE FESTIVAL KONTRAPUNKT (accompanying event).
“The show is based on a great acting idea. There are 10 actresses present on the stage, however, depending on the passage of time, Cahun and Moore are played by more and more mature pairs of actresses, and these changes of the characters take place extremely smoothly (all the ladies play brilliantly, lightly and fervently). An important aspect of the show is also the use of photographs presented with the help of a projector, which further personalizes the spectacle — after all, the heroines were photographers.
So praise the authors of the play for recalling such colorful characters in such a thoughtful and poetic way. And for an anti-war message — as close to the heroes as it is to us.”
“A story as if from a beautiful but sad fairy tale. And painfully true. (...) a title with a slight poetic, a little provocative, as if from a tender romantic comedy. Don't kiss me now... Now, when? You could say: then, because it is a story from the past, but also right now, in our time. (...) It is rather a spectacle about the need for love, especially as the reverse side of hate. The need for closeness and acceptance, opposed to rigor 'in the name of principles'. Disagreement and the resulting action, against the current of consent and comfortable passivity forced by circumstances.”
“A thrilling, full of feminine and punk energy herstoria, renewing the memory of extraordinary artists and giving lessons to live a dignified and fulfilled life. The authors constructs this narrative in an interesting way, combining the tender intimacy of domestic, bedroom conversations with the image of bold, unrelenting public engagement. A fully female cast confidently guides their heroines through successive eras, eras, events, effectively conveying emotions associated with war, the need for resistance, anxiety about the world. And endless, giving strength and hope, love.”
