Surprise

28 May — 2 Dec 2026
19:00 - 21:50
Al. Solidarności 93, Warszawa

The play, written by Pierre Sauvil, is a spectacular and dynamic arch-comedy, prepared especially for the 10th anniversary of the Kamienica Theatre. Directed by Emiliano Kamiński, the play exposes many truths of today in a humorous way. This is a play with an excellent cast, brilliant dialogues and... a lot of SURPRISES!

About the event

A fulfilled businessman and an unfulfilled actress. Beautiful and wealthy owners of a large company live together, but they are mainly united by a common property. When Katarzyna (Joanna Liszowska/Andzelika Piechowiak) finally decides to change her life, Filip (Sambor Czarnota) plots an intrigue to prevent her from doing so. The discovery of her husband's infamous intentions causes an avalanche of surprising, criminal twists and turns. Neighbors get involved in the marital conflict: poor pensioner Waldemar Szarak (Bogdan Kalus), nosy Janina Kapusta (Elżbieta Jarosik/Małgorzata Sadowska) and smart student Bożydar Satanowski (Krystian Kukułka).

The Kamienica Theatre on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the existence of the Theatre presents us with a certain “Surprise”. The comedy, which touches on very important social problems, allows us to look at reality with a distance in order to better understand the world around us. The audience is constantly waiting for a surprise with a large dose of humor and grotesque, supported by a great game of actors. In this wonderful show we will meet already experienced actors of the theater scene and their younger colleagues who match their step. The scenography also deserves a separate praise, as it is perfectly matched to the choreography of the actors' movements and is very aesthetic. Thanks to this comedy, you can relax and immerse yourself in contemplation of the variety of problems that affect every person in society.

Thanks to Kamiński, the universal plot, which can be played anywhere in the world, is woven into the most current Warsaw plots, which, using a culinary comparison, wonderfully add flavor to the main dish, that is, the relationship between a divorcing marriage and the clash of the main characters from diametrically different backgrounds (...). Katarzyna (Joanna Liszowska) is an unfulfilled artist who performs only on a private quasi-stage, in which one of the rooms of a luxury apartment has been turned into. And Filip (Sambor Czarnota), her husband (yet!) he is a businessman of the new generation, that is, a cunning man who has had many conflicts with the law in the past. Both play exactly as such roles should be played, that is, with humor, with the right amount of distance, without bloat and pathos, although more than once they voice quite serious, life issues. You can see that they are both very comfortable in their roles. Finally, I left Krzysztof Kiersznowski, playing Waldemar Szarak (...). In the performance of Kiersznowski, this is CREATION! (...). Kiersznowski's play is painfully convincing, true, ridiculously tragic, just R E W E L A C Y J N A! There is no need to describe and analyze it, you have to see and listen to it!

If the play was judged by the length of the final applause, the play by the Kamienica Theatre entitled “Surprise” would rank at the forefront of the history of theatre performances in Starosądek. Modernized, deeply embedded in Polish realities, with numerous intertwining marriage, social, moral, media and political threads, it exposed many truths of today's times and left viewers with the feeling of an intensely spent evening in a select company.
