Our series “Across Borders: Draw, Tear Down, Move” at BERLIN GLOBAL is entering its third round. This time we invite you to a reading from “Never Reunification: 100 Interruptions to German Unity” with author Paula Fürstenberg.
And that's what it's about:
Paula Fürstenberg looks at German unity from the perspective of a post-reunification generation. In the “Einheitsstaumel”, flourishing landscapes and a better future were promised. However, the reality of many people in the East was characterized by unemployment, emigration and right-wing violence. Based on her own biography, which begins in the so-called baseball bat years, Fürstenberg asks about the gaps in the German unit narrative. Her book sees reunification not only as a democratic success story, but also as a turning point, which was accompanied by the rise of a new nationalism and right-wing violence.
It is moderated by journalist and author Nhi Le.
