Nigel Kennedy returns to Poland as part of the Jazz Icons series with a new project “Virtuoso” — a unique concert combining classical music, jazz and original compositions by the artist. One of the most charismatic and unpredictable violinists in the world will perform in the form of a string trio during three concerts: in Poznań, Gdańsk and Warsaw.
Nigel Kennedy is recognized as one of the most outstanding contemporary violinists. He studied under Yehudi Menuhin, collaborated with Stéphane Grappelli, and gained worldwide popularity with the legendary recording of Antonio Vivaldi's “Four Seasons” — the best-selling classical music album in history (as many as 2 million copies!). For more than forty years he has performed in the most prestigious concert halls of the world, delighting the audience with his virtuosity, stage energy and uncompromising approach to music. It is distinguished by its exceptional lightness in combining musical styles while maintaining the highest level of composition and performance. Kennedy is an aspiring artist, independent and free from conventions.
The project “Virtuoso” combines classical music, jazz and original compositions of the artist. The repertoire will also include interpretations of works by Krzysztof Komeda and Ryuichi Sakamoto, jazz inspirations by Django Reinhardt and music by Johann Sebastian Bach, whom Kennedy considers a precursor of improvisation.
This project is also a meeting of three outstanding musical personalities, during which the classical form intersects with improvisation, creating an intense, emotional and full of artistic freedom experience.
