Niko lives in a completely ordinary block in a typical 1970s housing estate, with an ordinary neighborhood shop and bus stop. He knows bus schedules very well, scrupulously follows the schedule of the day and has his own interests, but he lacks friends. It is not at all easy to make friends, everyone has their own affairs, they also have expectations and expect someone to behave this way and not otherwise. Is there one good recipe for friendship? How to fall out well, to make someone like you?
The show is a ministudium of awkwardness at the beginning of a new acquaintance. It is a story of everyday life in which the familiar fear of loneliness and lack of acceptance and (so often clumsy and quite funny) taking the trouble to meet a new person is present.
NIKO meets the needs of a neurodiverse audience. We propose a theatrical event that is created from the beginning with attention to the different needs of viewers, including those on the autism spectrum.
“The show dedicated to people on the spectrum is also an invitation addressed to all those who want to understand others, who are curious about the world in all its diversity. It can be a very good starting point to talk about neurodiversity, but also about such universal things as loneliness, lack of acceptance, friendship.” — Lidia Cichocka, Echo of the Day
“The whole thing takes place in a modest scenography, showing places that are important for the protagonist - an apartment or a bus stop, where he likes to spend time. On the one hand, the performance from the Żeromski Theatre in Kielce has something ostentatiously untheatrical about it - the actors step out of the roles, thus helping to find themselves here for neuroatypical audiences - and on the other hand, with the help of theatrical means it allows a better understanding of the way people like Niko perceive the world. Without clairvoyance, task or intrusive didactics.” — Michał Centkowski, Przegląd
The show was created as part of the project “Blue Zone”.
