Ossoliński in the dark zone - a joint reading of “Baden Evenings or novels about fears and ghosts of Józef Maxymiliano, Count of Tenczyno Ossoliński”.

We will start the meeting at 16.00 at the exhibition “O! Ossolineum” next to the manuscript of “Evenings”, and then we will go to the Reader's Zone to listen to fragments of stories read by the Ossolinians.

About “Baden Evenings”

The narrator — in this role played by Józef Maksymilian Ossoliński — introduces readers to the occasion of the creation of “Baden Evenings”. Well, at the end of the 18th century, he was “at the waters” in Baden near Vienna with a group of Polish cureats, coming from noble families (there were representatives of the Poniatowski, Lubomirski, Rzewuski, Potocki, Sapieh, Tyszkiewicz and Wielopolskie). Tired of complaining about “national disasters” (like demolitions and insurrections), it was decided to tear up in the evening by the fireplace with something more interesting. And what could be more exciting than a story about fears and ghosts? Whether heard or read... The narrator was unwittingly the first to respond, and as in a stressful situation, he forgot the language in his mouth. So he called for help from the devil Asmodeus, known from medieval legends and the romance “The Lame Devil” by Aldin René Lesage...
