NONFICTION is a show about motherhood that does not fit into social notions. Of a love stronger than disappointment, but helpless in the face of the other man's choices. And about the need to tell stories, even when it is most difficult to find the right words for them.

About the event

NONFICTION is a show about motherhood that does not fit into social notions. Of a love stronger than disappointment, but helpless in the face of the other man's choices. And about the need to tell stories, even when it is most difficult to find the right words for them.

The heroine of the play tries to save her daughter struggling with addiction. He lives between fear and hope, constantly looking for a way to reach it. This path also leads her to her own relationship with the mother and questions about what in the experience of motherhood we inherit and what remains within the reach of our decisions.

At the center of the show is motherhood devoid of idealization—the experience of love that gives no sense of agency, and responsibility that does not protect against failure. At the same time, the play asks about creative freedom: is it possible to write about those you love? Does literature have the right to reach for the most intimate experiences if the price is to expose someone else's life?

The character of the daughter will be entrusted with handmade wool dolls-sculptures by Aneta Grzeszykowska, inspired by the Franciszek cycle. Their presence will open the space between memory and imagination, document and fiction.

Julie Myerson is the author of ten novels, including the bestselling “Something Might Happen” and three nonfiction books, including “Home: The Story of Everyone Who Ever Lived In Our House” (broadcast on BBC Radio 4) and “The Lost Child: a true story)”.
