Nosferatu — A Symphony of Horror LIVE with Babylon Orchestra Berlin
with German intertitles + English subtitles
Original music: Hans Erdmann (1922) New music arrangement: Hans Brandner (2018)
Nosferatu D 1922, directed by F. W. Murnau with Gustav von Wangenheim, Max Schreck, Alexander Granach, Greta Schröder, 93 min., OmeU (Engl. Subt.)
A scary cabinet. A silent oracle. Come on in!
Nosferatu comes as an epidemic from the East, by ship from the Black Sea. At midnight, he steps out of the coffin and searches for the precious, fresh blood of naive Germans. Death and putrefaction can only be stopped by the voluntary sacrifice of a beautiful woman, who makes Nosferatu forget the rising sun. The undead fear the light of enlightenment. A symphony of death accompanied by the Babylon Orchestra Berlin.
The young Hutter is sent to Transylvania by his boss to a certain Count Orlock, who wants to buy a house in Hutter's home town of Wisborg.
Hutter's journey and his return home turn into a horror trip. Vampirism as a metaphor of the war of the dead against the living, which can only be ended by the sacrifice of a lover.
A court ruling for plagiarism (of Bram Stoker's Dracula) sentenced Murnau's film itself to destruction. But copies of Nosferatu survived in the cellars of foreign archives, which is now considered the mother of all vampire films.
