Nice melody, expressive rhythm, sweet harmonies with the addition of a dance drive - this is always pleasing to the audience. After all, a symphonic concert does not have to contain only works that reach the depths of the philosophy of existence, but it can reach the depths of aesthetic pleasure. Arturo Márquez's Danzón No. 2 draws on the tradition of danzón, a Cuban ballroom dance that, over time, wandered to the Mexican port of Veracruz, and from there to the country's capital. Márquez emphasizes that dance lightness is here the carrier of a specific philosophy of life, a sensuality underpinned by nostalgia. On the other hand, Manuel de Falla's Three-Headed Hat will take us to the middle of the Spanish province — the ballet written for the Parisian ensemble Diaghilev stunned with folk rhythms and a specific melody no less than the scenography and costumes of Picasso.
About the event
Camille Saint-Saëns' alluring Introduction does not at first foreshadow the effervescent virtuosity of Ronda capriccioso and the combination of sensual joy of listening triggered by it. The composer achieves the effect with a skillful gesture and a brilliant inventiveness — his hands burst into applause!
Hot rhythms were not usually expected from music from Japan - and yet Akira Ifukubi's compositional debut of the 1930s, orchestrated after sixty years, surprises with its clarity of outline and energy, balancing it with skillfully lyrical singing.
