The program of this concert will be filled with a light, one might say: entertaining repertoire. We know Jean Sibelius primarily as the creator of great symphonic works — but he also wrote charming miniatures such as Impromptu for Strings, a compilation of two piano trifles. Jean Françaix's humorous bassoon Divertimento was supposed to be a stepping stone from the tragic events of 1942. Brook Green Suite, written for the school orchestra conducted by Gustav Holst, does not contain a shadow of his imminent death two months after its premiere. Mozart's Serenade Notturna draws attention with a peculiar cast: it is a piece for strings and cauldrons. In addition, the division into a solo group (quartet without cello, but with double bass) and orchestra — as in the Baroque. It is music written for entertainment, but also for the amusement of a twenty-year-old composer with his brilliant invention.
