What would film music be without orchestral “sheet metal”? Brass wind instruments give the impression of space, enhance the strength of dramatic passages, emphasize lyricism and chill in the veins. Every filmmaker knows this — and arrangements for a brass band of the music of John Williams or Hans Zimmer for superhero films can further enhance this experience. Closer to the aesthetics of classic big bands, we will find Otto M. Schwarz's Last Call, while Edward Gregson's Fanfare for a New Era will present a sheet sound inherited from the aesthetics of a romantic symphony. The hymnal character of the works of Kevin Houben or Steven Verhelst and the neoclassical musical language of Jan Koetsier will complete the multicolored picture of what a contemporary wind orchestra can do.
