Nubian Twist (UK)

Nubiyan Twist delivers an energetic fusion of jazz, funk and soul that is almost impossible to stand still for. The seven-person ensemble is known for their phenomenal live shows and last year played a complete sold-out gig at ALICE. This fall, they return with new crew, new live show and the current album “Chasing Shadows” (2026).

Nubiyan Twist formed in 2011 at Leeds College of Music where they created their grand and genre-saturated sound with strands to jazz, hip hop, afrobeat, dancehall, soul, reggae and electronic music. The ensemble counts nine musicians on everything from saxophone and trumpet to vocals and percussion, who together create warm, immersive grooves and life-affirming songs.

Over the years, the band has built up a reputation as one of the strongest live bands on the UK scene. Their releases and concerts have garnered acclaim from audiences and media alike — including NPR, which describes their sound as “Joyous, beautiful and rich”. After collaborations with names such as Nile Rodgers, Tony Allen, Seun Kuti and Fatoumata Diawara, Nubiyan Twist continues to explore new musical connections across cultures and generations. We can't wait to welcome them back at ALICE after last year's stewing full concert.
