The world's first novel was written by a woman — Murasaki Shikibu — in the 11th century. In Japan, then, has literature been and is the domain of women? Or did they have to fight for their own voice and platform?
During the meeting we will look at the most important authors and their works and talk about the topics that Japanese women most often raise. We will also discuss the importance of the work of women authors in the literature of Japan and its contribution to the development of both classics and contemporary prose.
