About the event

We invite you to participate in family activities organized around the second edition of the permanent exhibition “O! Ossolineum. Treasury under the Dome”, entitled “Librarian Visionary”.

Among the priceless objects presented on it are medieval manuscripts, manuscripts of works by outstanding Polish writers, graphics measuring almost three meters, and gold and silver coins. Many years ago they found their new home in Wrocław, and now they will become for us an inspiration for creative artistic activities. It is an opportunity to play together — both for children and caregivers — and a way to tame the museum space and establish contact with culture from an early age.

What is a manuscript? What does marble have to do with writing? What instruments were once used to write letters? During the class, we will test different writing tools and see that some of them can surprise you! And we will combine all this with learning about examples of manuscripts from the rich collection of Ossolineum.

Spend Library Night with us! Participants will be given directions to the search that will take place at the exhibition. Together they will find puzzles hidden in mysterious drawers — a wooden labyrinth that forms a map of books, and on their basis they will decipher and fill the boards received.

During the first meeting we will get to know the silhouettes of the founders of Ossolineum — Count Joseph Maximilian and Prince Henry. With the help of colored paper and newspaper fragments, we will give their portraits a contemporary look and consider how the images of people in old paintings or engravings differ from today's photographs.

Let's get to know the “roll” in a different edition than the Internet — in a museum it is a paper scroll showing a vast view or an important event, even a few meters long! On the occasion of Independence Weekend, we will create our own versions of it, drawing pictures depicting a “small homeland” - a house, a yard, a school - and complementing them with cut out fragments of old engravings.

In the past, books were often made in such a way that each copy was unique. All thanks to unusual ornaments - illuminations. In the course of the meeting we will find out what made them different from modern book illustrations, and how they were similar. We will also conjure up unique stickers with our own illuminations. After class, you will be able to decorate your notebook or book of Andrew's fortune-telling with them.

As part of the meeting, we will talk about the details that appear on the coins and medals presented at the exhibition. We will consider what unites them, what is different, and what is especially surprising... Inspired, in the workshop space we will create personalized coins stamped in aluminum with your own hands, which can be hung on the Christmas tree.
