Life is full of goodbyes. Sooner or later, we lose someone we love. At other times, we lose a relationship, a place, a health, a job, a dream, or an idea of the future. Some losses come suddenly, others ripen in us slowly. Each can bring profound changes.
Death and loss are part of the human experience. And yet we often do not know what to do when they appear. How to talk about it? How to be with a person who is grieving? How to support without forcibly comforting? How to be mindful of your own pain instead of trying to “get back to normal” as soon as possible?
The Good Death Institute and ARTE invite you to an evening dedicated to mourning and a tender approach to the experience of loss.
Together, we will watch three inspiring stories that show different faces of grief and different ways of experiencing loss. We will listen to expert perspectives and then invite you to talk.
We will look at what grief is, what we need when we lose, and how we can accompany each other through these difficult experiences. With tenderness, mindfulness and agreement that each and every one of us can experience loss differently.
dir. Claudia Euen, Isabel Hahn - 26'
Grief is a reaction to the experience of loss, but not only when someone close to us dies. Three people tell us about the many faces of grief: a widow, a refugee and a woman who lost her brother. Experts from the world of psychology and science also share their different perspectives on the grieving process.
dir. Simone Dettelbacher - 30'
Guys don't cry,” T.Love sang more than 20 years ago. The “strong sex” is still ashamed of their emotions, does not show after themselves either sadness or pain. This has serious effects on physical and mental health. Experts say this needs to change and they try sometimes surprising methods to teach men how to grieve.
After the reports, there will be a panel discussion with experts from the Collective of the Good Death Institute. The discussion is in the nature of an open dialogue, encouraging questions and joint reflection.
