Meursault lives in Algiers and leads a seemingly ordinary, quiet life. When his mother dies, he does not react as his surroundings expect. A short time later, an event occurs that completely changes his situation and makes not only his actions come to judgment, but also the way he looks at the world.
François Ozon reaches for one of the most important novels of the 20th century and tells it in his own very cinematic language. Black and white photographs, sparing dialogues and a cool atmosphere convey Camus's world well, and at the same time open up many topics for conversation: about freedom, responsibility, guilt, emotions and how much we try to fit others into social expectations.
