About the event

In the interwar twenties, the process of finding a newly created country on the world map takes place in conditions far from those when it disappeared from the map more than a century earlier.

The world after World War I is divided between great colonial empires, imposing racial hierarchies and a picture of the totality of global relations. The process of situating oneself on the new map of the world takes place not only or even primarily discursively - the visual culture of the age of maturing technical reproduction plays a huge role in it.

During the lecture we will look at selected elements of the visuals of the interwar twenties, including the seascapes of Władysław Strzeminski and the Łódź landscapes of Stanisław Notarjusz, in order to bring closer a new picture of the world and draw attention to its omissions and empty spots.
