The Centre of Folk and Artistic Industry (Cepelia) was not only a huge state-owned enterprise, but also a meeting place for different worlds: folk artists, artists, designers, researchers and customers. What came of this meeting? During the discussion panel, together with the curatorial team creating the exhibition “Obywatelka Cepelia” and other specialists and specialists, we will examine the socio-cultural influence of Cepelia and the tensions and relationships that shaped its activities. Together we will consider what of the “favorite daughter of the PRL” has remained with us to this day. The event will take place during the Publishing Fair. In the “Arbor” space in the Main Building, all interested parties will be able to purchase museum publications at an attractive price, including the catalogue accompanying the exhibition “Obywatelka Cepelia”.
About the event
Prof. Piotr Korduba, PhD, UAM — co-curator of the exhibition “Obywatelka Cepelia” at the National Museum in Krakow. Art historian, director of the Institute of Art History of the UAM in Poznań. She deals with the culture of living, artistic crafts, design, design history, the history of the art market in Poland and Polish-German artistic and historical relations. Author of the book People for Sale. Society for the Promotion of Folk Industry, Cepelia, Institute of Industrial Design (2013) and numerous other publications, including the book Warsaw Apartments. Biographies of Places, Things, and People (2024). Editor-in-Chief of “Artium Quaestiones”.
Anna Wiszniewska, PhD — co-curator of the exhibition “Citizen of Cepelia” at the National Museum in Krakow. Art and design historian, curator and academic lecturer. She deals with the history of Polish design and subject art, including metalwork, jewelry, ceramics and toy making, as well as the history of Polish artistic cooperation and artists' associations with Cepelia. Winner of the Professor Jerzy Łoziński Award (2017).
Ewa Klekot, PhD, professor at SWPS University — anthropologist, translator, curator, habilitation doctor, professor at the Faculty of Design at SWPS University. She is interested in interdisciplinarily combining the humanities and social sciences with design and artistic activities, both in research and education. The current area of research is the anthropology of manufacturing and related cognition and knowledge: skills, knowledge of the body, materials and processes; manufacturing traditions and intangible heritage. He also deals with anthropological reflection on art, especially the social construction of folk and primitive art, as well as the materiality and valuation of objects recognized as design, art, monument, museum exhibit.
Barbara Klich-Kluczewska, PhD, professor of the Jagiellonian University — historian, professor at the Jagiellonian University. He specializes in the social and cultural history of Central and Eastern Europe of the 20th century. It explores, among other things, the history of family, women and gender, childhood, private and everyday life, and sexuality and corporeality. Member of the Committee of Historical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Polish Historical Society. Author of books such as Through the Keyhole. Private life in Krakow 1945—1989 and Family, taboo and communism in Poland (1956—1989).
Moderator: Łukasz Gazur — art and theatre critic, long-time head of the culture department at “Dziennik Polski” and “Gazeta Krakowska”. He has published and collaborated with, among others, “Przekrój”, “Tygodnik Powszechny”, “Wprost”, TVP Kultura. Member of the Polish section of the international critics association AICA. Academic lecturer in collecting and antiquarian and journalistic fields. Four times awarded the Małopolska Journalists Award. Deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine “Meetings with Zabytkami”. Winner of the anniversary edition of the Feliks Jasieński “Collecting — Science and Dissemination” awards.
