“Odyssey” is a story about a man who must travel the path of a hero in order to save his own soul. And about a woman who watches at the border of life and death, between reality and dream, trying to evoke him from the abyss. It's a story about how every return — whether from war, crisis, or darkness — is really a painful, painful rediscovery of one's own identity.

About the event

“Odyssey” is a story about a man who must travel the path of a hero in order to save his own soul. And about a woman who watches at the border of life and death, between reality and dream, trying to evoke him from the abyss. It's a story about how every return — whether from war, crisis, or darkness — is really a painful, painful rediscovery of one's own identity.

Who's in there?

In the interpretation of “Odyssey” by Małgorzata Warsicka, Odysseus's journey does not lead through the seas and islands, but through the labyrinth of his own memory. Yes, his journey materializes on stage: encounters with monsters, seducers, gods and goddesses, sometimes terrible, sometimes funny — but is it a story of events or merely symbolic images of Odysseus's psyche, which faces anger, helplessness and loss?

The same struggle is fought by Penelope, nurturing the body of an unrecognizable husband. Like Grażyna Jagielska, the wife of long-time war correspondent Wojciech Jagielski (author of the book “Love from the Stone”), Penelope, during the years of waiting, without participating in the fighting herself, acquired neurosis and post-traumatic stress. This mythical journey is also her journey — from illness to recovery, from death from fear of longing to self-determination.

The music of Paweł Romańczuk leads the audience into this inner landscape. Together with her, we enter the experience of a hero, a journey that involves not returning home, but returning to oneself.
