Ogin-sama

A film about the battlefields: The acts of war at the beginning soon lead to the no less dramatic lines of conflict in the life of the young, deeply believing Christin Ogin (Ineko Arima), daughter of a famous tea master. Her earthly passion is for the married and no less believing samurai Ukon (Tatsuya Nakedai), who, however, rejects her love. The resulting arranged marriage with another person falls during the persecution of Christians in the late 16th century, which also affected Ogin. Once again, Tanaka sheds light on her protagonist's courage to resist, her longings in a remarkably frank way. It is her last of six directorial works that she was able to repel from the Japanese film industry — actively and financially supported by the Ninjin Club. (mg)
