Cast: Sandra Hüller, Hanns Zischler, August Diehl, Anna Madeley, David Striesov
The film follows the relationship between Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler), a Nobel Prize winner in literature, and his daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller), an actress and writer. The action takes place at the height of the Cold War. A father and daughter embark on an arduous, emotional journey in a black Buick through ruined Germany — from American-controlled Frankfurt to Soviet-influenced Weimar. For the first time since the end of the war, Mann returns to his homeland, having previously made the difficult decision to emigrate to the United States.
In his latest work, as in “Goes” and “The Cold War”, the director tackles themes of identity, guilt, family and love against the backdrop of the chaos and moral confusion of post-war Europe. Starring Oscar® nominee Sandra Hüller (“Zone of Interest”, “Anatomy of the Fall”, “The Hail Mary Project”) and Hanns Zischler (“Munich”). The film received a directing award at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
