“Homeland” is the latest, long-awaited film by Oscar® winner Paweł Pawlikowski, creator of “Ida” and “Cold War”.
In his latest work, as in his previous works, the director takes on the themes of identity, guilt, family and love against the background of the chaos and moral confusion of post-war Europe.
Starring Oscar® nominee Sandra Hüller (“Zone of Interest”, “Anatomy of the Fall”, “The Hail Mary Project”) and Hanns Zischler (“Munich”). The script was written by Paweł Pawlikowski and Henk Handloegten. The director once again invited his long-time creative team — Oscar-nominated cinematographer Łukasz Żal (“Hamnet”), costume designer Aleksandra Staszko (“Ministranci”) and scenographers Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński (“Doll”) to make the film.
Homeland tells the story of the relationship between Thomas Mann (Hanns Zischler), a Nobel Prize winner in literature, and his daughter Erika (Sandra Hüller), an actress and writer. The action takes place at the height of the Cold War. A father and daughter embark on a difficult, emotional journey in a black Buick through ruined Germany — from American-controlled Frankfurt to Soviet-influenced Weimar. For the first time since the end of the war, Mann returns to his homeland, having previously made the difficult decision to emigrate to the United States.
