OKNO — Open Scientific Club of the Opera — is a series of talks with representatives of the world of science in various fields: philosophy, oceanography, astronomy, etc. The talks will be led by Katarzyna Burakowska — former head of Windy — Gdańsk Archipelago of Culture, culture manager for many years.
This is a series of meetings dedicated to the relationship between music and science. In conversations with scientists, reflections are made on the impact of music in different areas of life. The meetings have the character of a dialogue, conducive to the exchange of thoughts between art and science.
During each meeting, a live illustrative report is created. Its author, Dominika Wróblewska, draws the course of the meeting, and the audience can follow the progress of her work on the LED screen.
The guest of the first panel (March 19, 2026) was Tomasz Stawiszyński — philosopher, essayist, publicist. The second meeting of the OKNO series took place on 7 May and was titled Sea Acoustics, and Katarzyna Burakowska's interlocutor was Prof. Zygmunt Klusek from the Institute of Oceanology (IO) of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). In September (17.09) there was a meeting entitled Quanta and music, and its guest was Prof. Michał Horodecki.
We invite you to the following meetings:
October 29 - What's up in space?
The guest of the fourth Open Science Club of the Opera will be Prof. Dr. Agnieszka Pollo — astrophysicist, Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the National Center for Nuclear Research, employee of the Astronomical Observatory of the Jagiellonian University. He is a scientist in observational cosmology and extragalactic astrophysics.
During the meeting we will learn how sound propagates in the Cosmos. We will consider whether the Cosmos really “sounds” and what actually reaches us from the farthest corners of the Universe. We will embark on an unobvious intergalactic journey full of mysterious sound signals emanating from the Cosmos.
November 19 - Music of the Ancestors
