Old Film Festival: Urbaniak in Memoriam

Old Film Festival 2026 invites you to a unique concert “Urbaniak in Memoriam” — a musical tribute to one of the most outstanding Polish jazzmen, Michał Urbaniak. For decades, the artist has set the direction for the development of Polish and world jazz, boldly combining it with funk, fusion and contemporary music. On the stage of the New Campus of the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, Nos na Kwintet will perform — a band formed by lecturers and students of the university, which will present author's interpretations of Michał Urbaniak's work. The special guest of the evening will be Bisz, giving the concert a contemporary dimension and showing how the master's work inspires subsequent generations of artists.

The evening will be enriched by a unique film setting — the audience will see carefully selected fragments of films and archival recordings of concerts with the participation of Michał Urbaniak, thanks to which his music will resonate in the wider context of an extraordinary career and artistic personality. The concert will be conducted by Piotr Metz, who will share his memories and stories about the artist, presenting his achievements and significance for the Polish and world jazz scene.

It will be an evening full of music, memories and emotions, paying tribute to the legend of Polish culture. The meeting of different generations of musicians, film archives and a unique atmosphere will create a unique opportunity to rediscover the work of Michał Urbaniak and its timeless character. We invite you to one of the most unique events of the Old Film Festival 2026.
