About the event

On Sunday 25 October at 18:00 we invite you to the concert of the band Olo Walicki Kaszëbë. There will be songs from the project's two previous albums: “Kaszëbë” and “Kaszëbë II”.

The first album “Kaszëbë”, very enthusiastically received by the audience and critics throughout Poland, brought a contemporary look at the culture of the region and songs in Kashubian to Damroka Kńska's lyrics. “Kaszëbë II” developed this story in a more rock-punk direction and broadened the view of Kashubia with a reflective and sometimes critical tone. The album included lyrics by Dorota Masłowska and Tymon Tymański, among others. The project was presented at many Polish festivals, including the OFF Festival in Katowice, and the band also recorded a video session for the American station KEXP. Both albums combine Walicki's original music, improvisation, alternative sounds and inspiration from Kashubian culture, consciously moving away from its folkloric stereotypes.

In the album “Kaszëbë II” Olo Walicki talks about modern Kashubia — a region that is beautiful, multidimensional and marked by a difficult history. Of particular importance in the context of the concert in the Museum of the Second World War is the opening piece “Karmic Długi” with text by Grzegorz Nawrocki. It can be read as a reflection on the weight of history and the memory of the place. He also recalls the experience of the Piaśnica crime — one of the first mass executions of civilians carried out by Germans during the Second World War, in which representatives of the Kashubian and Pomeranian intelligentsia were killed.

The reactivated Olo Walicki Kaszëbë project returns in a new, intergenerational line-up. Along with the musicians associated with its earlier history, artists of the youngest generation appear, who bring their own perspective and sensitivity to this music, proposing spontaneous and sometimes even daring interpretations of the works.

The concert at the World War II Museum heralds next year's 20th anniversary of the release of the first album “Kaszëbë” and a tour planned for 2027.
