Jazz with the soul of hip-hop. Dense as the name. Omasta is Cracowan fat that adds flavor to the dish. They could not choose a more appropriate name. Their music is dense and saturated: heavy drums, deep bass, and on this piano, trumpet, saxophone and flute.
They started in February 2024 with a tribute to J Dilla at the iconic Paul's Boutique. Less than two years later, the London Jazz Festival, OFF Festival, Gent Jazz, Ronnie Scott's, The Jazz Cafe and Brussels AB are behind them. In the studio and on stage they met with Madlib, Aquiles Navarro of Irreversible Entanglements, Marysia Osu, Tenderlonious and the legend of Polish free jazz Leszek Żądło. This year's set at Tauron Nowa Muzyka is still sitting in people's heads.
They come to Hypnosis fresh from the release. On October 16, Astigmatic Records released “Hits Different”, their second album, recorded after more than a hundred concerts played during the year in the UK, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Italy. Eleven instrumental compositions conceived as the soundtrack to a non-existent film: synths, electronic textures and more space for storytelling appear alongside hip-hop rhythms and wind chimes. Moods change from lightness to tension, and the interpretation is left to the listeners by the musicians.
Composition: Paweł Kowalik — trumpet Antoni Blumhoff — flute, soprano saxophone Bruno Sikorski — piano Wojciech Roman — bass Nikodem Wikieł — drums
