Once

A street musician, played with great empathy by Irish singer and songwriter Glen Hansard, nourishes himself by playing the usual classics to random passers-by in the streets of Dublin. As the darkness recedes, the hit repertoire is gradually replaced by own numbers. Numbers he plays for himself for his own pleasure. He doubts too much about his own talent to dare to hope that others will listen to the songs.

One night, however, he turns out to be wrong. A Czech immigrant and flower girl (Markéta Irglov) stops and listens. A very special friendship arises between them. They are both lonely and tumbling with love lives. But in the music they conceive a common dream and find their way out of loneliness.

Hansard and Irglov received an Oscar for Best Original Song for the hit 'Falling Slowly'.
