About the event

We warmly invite you to an open lecture by Christoph Meissner, “The End of World War II in Berlin and the House in Karlshorst,” taking place on 8 October at 5:00 p.m. at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.

The signing of the unconditional surrender of the German Wehrmacht on May 8, 1945, in Berlin marked the end of the Second World War in Europe. Historian Christoph Meißner from the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst examines the changing history of the building in the Berlin district of Karlshorst, which is now home to the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst. He explores how the use of the building changed after 1945. He also examines how different perspectives on the end of the war and the way the building has been perceived to have evolved over time. At the same time, the lecture introduces the work of the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst, a historic site of the German surrender that addresses Germany's war of annihilation against the Soviet Union.

Christoph Meißner is a research associate at the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst. He studied History, Art History, and Political Science in Dresden and Berlin. He has curated numerous exhibitions on the topics of World War II and the Soviet troops in Germany after 1945.
