Operakino 26/27 - LOHENGRIN from Bayreuth 2018

Lohengrin is a dark and almost satanic tale about the evil couple Ortrud and Telramund who seek power in the Duchy of Brabant and attempt to destroy Elsa, the rightful heir to the throne after her missing brother, Gottfried. They accuse Elsa of murdering her brother, and her fate must be decided by a Deity — a duel between Telramund and a knight who will defend her. The Grail Knight Lohengrin hears Elsa's plea for divine help and comes to her rescue. In return, she must promise never to ask him his name or origin.
About this acclaimed production by director Yuval Sharon, Opernwelt wrote: “One of the most interesting innovations in the musical landscape.” The New York Times also featured the excellent Piotr Beczała in the title role, Anja Harteros's impressive Bayreuth debut as Elsa, and the inimitable Waltraud Meier's dominant and fascinating Ortrud.
