Gallery curator Joanna Gościej-Lewińska invites you to a unique meeting with the work of Zdzisław Beksiński. The permanent exhibition, located in the Nowohuc Cultural Center, includes 50 oil paintings from the collections of Anna and Piotr Dmochowski. Most of the paintings presented come from the 1980s, from the so-called fantastic period in the painter's work, when his most famous, iconic — from today's perspective — works were created. The collection is complemented by a dozen paintings from the last years of the artist's life, showing the painter's turn towards more ascetic forms of expression.
Beksiński belongs to a narrow group of Polish artists whose work is so well recognized both in Poland and in Europe. The works, which give rise to a lot of emotions and controversy, do not leave anyone indifferent. They arouse extreme feelings in the audience: from delight, to harsh criticism. Beksiński's artistic language is characterized by great detail. The master immortalizes in his works deformed figures, abandoned buildings, frightening shapes and figures that alternately fascinate and frighten.
