About the event

How do traditional techniques and aesthetics of Carpathian icons combine with queer themes and the story of the contemporary Polish countryside? You will be able to learn about this, as well as about the eponymous “grandfather” and other aspects of Małgorzata Mycek's exhibition during a curatorial tour.

On Sunday 11 October at 15:00 we invite you to Galeria Bielska BWA for a curatorial tour of the exhibition “Dziadostwo” by Małgorzata Mycek.

During the tour, you will be able to find out, among others, why the artist turned to traditional techniques and aesthetics of Carpathian icons, how he processes motifs related to the Polish countryside and religion and how he introduces queer themes into them. Participants will also look at the eponymous “grandfatherhood” as a concept that Mycek recovers and gives it new meanings, as well as the ways in which his works address the themes of social norms, violence against minorities and the contemporary crisis of masculinity.

Curator Paulina Darłak will talk about the exhibition.
