We invite you to a curatorial tour of the exhibition “Idols of perversion. Sophie de Ines”, during which we will look at the extraordinary relationship between costume, body and identity.
The starting point for the exhibition are the designs and costumes of the outstanding scenographer Zofia de Ines and the performance “Idols of Perversion” realized in 1991 by the Wojciech Misiura Expression Theatre — one of the most interesting phenomena of Polish performance theatre at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s.
During the meeting, the curators will talk about the history of the creation of the exhibition, the backstage of the collaboration between Sofia de Ines and the Theater of Expression and how the costume can become a tool for transcending social and cultural norms.
Together we will also look at the works of contemporary artists who take on the themes of corporeality, self-creation, the fluidity of identity and the performativity of gender.
It is an opportunity to look at the costume not only as an element of theatrical illusion, but also as a medium to tell about our ideas about the body, beauty, gender and social roles.
The tour will allow you to better understand the contexts of the presented works and discover why the exhibition “Idols of Perversion” remains relevant even today.
