“The Imagined Object” is the second exhibition created as a result of the cooperation of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (Faculty of Intermediums) with the Krakow Museum (Kamienica Hipolitów) as part of the series “Open tenement house”.
The reference point for the exhibition for 2026 is material culture — preserved everyday objects from the collection stored in the Hippolytus House. They have become a source of inspiration and creative interpretation for invited artists, students and graduates of the Faculty of Intermedia. The exhibition was preceded by several months of consultations and workshops on the meaning and understanding of what value is an object of everyday use, even more so 100 years ago. The joint action of the two institutions responds to the need to make students and the visiting public aware of everyday objects, its practical aspect and aesthetic dimension. It is also embedding it in the context of memory, because objects bring associations and can also communicate social content in a literal or more symbolic way.
