On 7 November at 12:00 we invite you to a curatorial tour entitled “Traces of the Fate of Prisoners of War”, which will be led by Dr. Jan Daniluk after the main exhibition of MIIWŚ.
Inherent in virtually every conflict in the 20th century was the question of the prisoner of war and the fate of the soldiers who became enslaved. Cautious estimates indicate that between 1939 and 1945 between 25 and 30 million soldiers (all parties involved in the conflict) went into captivity. Their fates were very diverse. They depended on the policy of a particular group of prisoners and the extent to which the State concerned respected the Geneva Convention of 1929, as well as on the place and time of entry into captivity, the resources available to the party taking the prisoners, and finally, on the situation at the front.
During the walk, selected objects and places of the main exhibition will be indicated, which will introduce the complicated fate of prisoners of war in the years of World War II.
The tour will be led by Dr Jan Daniluk — one of the curators of the main exhibition, a historian employed in the Scientific Department of MIIWS and an academic lecturer at the University of Gdańsk. Author of numerous scientific and popular science publications.
Meeting point: behind the gates at the entrance to the main exhibition Duration: about 60 minutes
Attention! At the end of the walk, return to the entrance to the exhibition. As part of the same ticket, there is the possibility of further, individual tour of the exhibition.
