On the 8th anniversary of the death of Edward Dwurnik, the painter's daughter Pola will tour the exhibition Edward Dwurnik. Pride and shame. It will be an opportunity to take a unique look at this exhibition.
The exhibition focuses on the artist's work from the 1970s and 1980s — the presentation of two of his main painting cycles, entitled Athletes and Workers. The starting point for the exhibition was the desire to reconstruct Dwurnik's original artistic attitude, formed at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s.
This attitude was characterized by the rejection of the elitism of art, associations with outsider art and the concept of painting as a document of social life. Dwurnik believed in realistic, participatory painting and treated it as an egalitarian language that helps to communicate with the people portrayed in the paintings. He believed in painting, which helps to express and build community.
