Historian Adam Kurowski will talk about the idea of building a building commemorating the civilian victims of the Warsaw Uprising, and will also discuss more extensively the temporary exhibition “Death of the City”, which is a presentation of makeshift graves and places of executions of the inhabitants of the city and soldiers of the 1944 Uprising, presented with maps showing the city from a bird's eye view.
The maps were developed by Zygmunt Walkowski, an expert on the iconography of Warsaw during the Second World War, specializing in the interpretation of images of the capital. Warsaw's pre-war mortgage plan was used to locate the places of events described in historical sources. The places marked on it were transferred to German aerial photographs taken during the uprising and after its fall. The photographs, from The National Archives in College Park near Washington, are a record of the drama of Warsaw, which the Germans razed to the ground after the fall of the uprising.
The tour will be led by Adam Kurowski, Warsaw guide. Since 2020 in the Warsaw Museum, associated with the Memorial Chamber at the Warsaw Insurgent Cemetery since its opening.
