pl. Bohaterów Getta 18, Kraków

During the Second World War, the pharmacy “Pod Orły” operated in the Krakow ghetto, managed by the Polish pharmacist Tadeusz Pankiewicz. Throughout the existence of the so-called Jewish quarter, he lived and worked within it. From the windows of the duty room he saw the crimes committed by the German occupier against the defenceless Jewish population. He witnessed the violent deportation of Jews to the Bełżec extermination camp. At the request of friends from the ghetto, he published memoirs after the war, in which he recalled the fate of mainly those who did not survive. During the tour we will find out why the pharmacist remained in the ghetto, even though he was not a Jew. We will learn the stories of the pharmacists who worked with him. We will discover the role that the pharmacy played in the “walled city”. We will hear about the fate and concerns of people whose memory Tadeusz Pankiewicz reminded of.
