What is it like to have a brother so famous that Disney himself makes films about him? What is it like to always be the latter, in nothing resembling the qualities of the former and always better? “Orecchio, Brother Pinocchio” is a story about the uniqueness of each of us. Merlin Vervaet outlines a reality in which you can soar in the air with fear and fall asleep in the midst of incredibly boring stories.

About the event

What is it like to have a brother so famous that Disney himself makes films about him? What is it like to always be the latter, in nothing resembling the qualities of the former and always better? “Orecchio, Brother Pinocchio” is a story about the uniqueness of each of us. Merlin Vervaet outlines a reality in which you can soar in the air with fear and fall asleep in the midst of incredibly boring stories.

Is it possible to find a place in such a world to believe in yourself and your own passion? Orecchio has to face not only the expectations of the family, but also his own idea of himself. Director Ada Tabisz presents us with a story about dilemmas related to one's own identity and not always easy relationship with siblings. Who will Orecchio be? Famous weather presenter or actor? Or maybe just Orecchiem.

Aleksandra Rembowska — “Not to be like Pinocchio”

What is it like to live in the shadow of an older brother? Although he once passed off as a ladaco, a liar with a long nose, he eventually graduated and “went out on people” and even made a career at Disney. For his mother, he became a golden child and, in a way, a role model for his younger siblings.

Anna Czajkowska — “Let's remember to turn on the radio, listen to the weather forecast and marvel at the blue sky...”

The new performance of the Gulliver Theater under the title “Orecchio, brother of Pinocchio” is addressed to young and young, elderly and oldest spectators. Is it another intergenerational staging in this theater? The story about Orecchio, no doubt, will also appeal to adults (although in the description it is indicated: intended for viewers from five years). The text by Belgian playwright Merlin Vervaet, successfully translated by Jan Nowak, carefully read and directed by Ada Tabisz, entertains with its allusiveness and brilliant dialogues, enchants with music and songs by Dominik Skwark. Merlin Vervaet is able to fascinate with the created fairytale land, appealing to the present and today's knowledge of the sensitivity of the child viewer. He evokes themes familiar to us from the fairy tale “Pinocchio” by Carl Collodi and others used in film adaptations of fairy tales (Disney and not only), but he writes a completely new story in which we follow other characters. Of course, the great celebrity, whose nose lengthens with every lie, will also appear. The grotesque fairy tale, full of fantasy and not devoid of observation of human, natural behavior, has in it a good dose of lyricism, touching melancholy, enriched with predatory humor and spontaneity, captured in the notches of the corresponding dramaturgy.
