About the event

We invite you to the temporary exhibition “Weapons in the Griffith State from the collection of the National Museum in Szczecin”, which will open on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 17.00, in the building at 3 Wały Chrobrego Street.

For the first time, a collection of medieval and modern weaponry from the collections of the National Museum in Szczecin will be presented. The exhibits come from the territory of the former Pomeranian Duchy and date from the beginning of the formation of the principality in the 12th century to the decline of the Griffith state in the 30s of the 17th century.

The exposition includes about 180 monuments of weapons and equestrian equipment. used by knights and townspeople. You will see a unique collection of melee weapons — including more than thirty medieval swords, puginals and cords from the 15th century, as well as Renaissance rapiers and palaces. There will also be shown armour, stick weapons and elements of protective armament. Firearms will be represented by a medieval hook and a sixteenth-century cannon from the castle in Szczecin.

A particularly interesting monument is the oldest crossbow in Polish collections from the beginning of the 15th century. Among the equestrian tools, a large collection of spurs stands out, showing the development of their forms over the centuries.

For the first time, viewers will be able to see fragments of weapons excavated after the Second World War from the princely crypt, as well as the linings of a hunting crossbow, found during archaeological research in 1975 on the territory of the castle in Szczecin.

The exhibition is richly illustrated with medieval depictions of Pomeranian art and German manuscripts.
