Bored of her dispassionate marriage with the bland musician Orpheus, Eurydice prefers to have fun with Pluto, the lord of the underworld, and — completely different from the mythological model — is enthusiastically carried away into the realm of the dead. When Heavenly Father Jupiter also finds out about the beautiful mortal, a witty competition ensues for Eurydice's favor. In the first major work by the “Father of Modern Operetta,” enthralling Parisian dance music meets orchestral sensitivity, culminating in the world-famous Cancan. Offenbach's myth travesty is carried by a top-class ensemble, which, led by speaker Max Hopp, dives into a brightly colored underworld. With Barrie Kosky's production, an absolute crowd hit is back on the schedule of the Komische Oper Berlin.
