One of Japan’s great orchestras celebrates its 80th anniversary with a rare London appearance under Music Director Tadaaki Otaka. Jazz pianist Makoto Ozone brings improvisatory freedom and flair to Rachmaninov’s dazzling *Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini*. The programme opens with Takemitsu’s evocative film music and concludes with Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, in which a sombre fate theme is transformed into a triumphant march.
Programme: Takemitsu: *Three Film Scores*; Rachmaninov: *Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini*; Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 5
Performers: Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra; Tadaaki Otaka (conductor); Makoto Ozone (piano)
