The film was created during an extraordinary exhibition that brought together virtually all of his most important paintings and drawings in one place, Bosch's hometown in the Netherlands, scattered around the world. This huge exhibition was visited by almost half a million visitors, marveling at Bosch's eccentric visions.

Grabsky's film asks the question who was Hieronymus Bosch? Why did his strange and fantastic paintings become so popular? How does the work of this Dutch painter combine medieval art and the Renaissance world? Where did he get his inspiration, where could his unconventional and timeless visions, full of complicated symbolism, come from?
