Lucius Glantz (the great Willem Dafoe) has been a concierge for several decades at Vienna's InterContinental Hotel, the first such luxurious place to appear on the map of Europe. From morning to night, he oversees every aspect of the institution's operation, taking care of the smallest details. One day, Lucius learns that the hotel will be sold to a new owner, who plans to radically remodel it. Lucius takes on an unequal fight to save the hotel — and his workplace, which has been his real home for years.
Awarded at the Venice Festival, “The Last Concierge” directed by the master of Argentine cinema, Gastón Solnicki, is a lyrical and moving story about the passing and the need to be needed. And also about the fact that you always need to be ready for a new chapter in life.
Solnicki with extraordinary precision alternates between seriousness and irony. His film evokes, on the one hand, the best titles of Jim Jarmusch, and on the other, it is somewhat reminiscent of the sarcastic response to the “Grand Budapest Hotel”. Rui Poças's wonderful pictures highlight the acting talent of Willem Dafoe, one of the most interesting character actors in the history of cinema, who shines like never before in “The Last Concierge”.
