Do you already know everything about Stanisław Wyspiański, or maybe you are just discovering the secrets of his work? Do you associate pastel portraits of children and “Wedding”? Maybe — walking around Krakow — you come across the traces of the “fourth messenger” in the Franciscan church? Looking at the Wawel, do you realize that the artist saw it differently?
All lovers and future enthusiasts of Stanisław Wyspiański's work are invited to meetings during which we will take a journey into the past. We will recall the most important events from the artist's life, themes and works created for Krakow and glorifying it to this day.
Stanisław Wyspiański's last journey begins in Węgrce, near Krakow. It was here that the artist moved in the summer of 1906, with his family, to a large house with a farm and a garden. He was already very ill, but he was still creating. Here he was visited by friends from Krakow, here the progressing illness forced him to bed for the last moments of his life. It was from here that he was taken to Dr. Jan Gwiazdomorski's Health Center, where he died on November 28, 1907, at the age of 38. His funeral took place on December 2 and drew crowds of mourners from the three partitions. It became one of the last civic manifestations of Poles during the Galician autonomy. Stanisław Wyspiański was buried in the Crypt of the Meritorious on the Skałka. During the lecture we will recall the last moments of the artist's life and his spectacular funeral.
