Othello

Often regarded as the greatest musical drama in Italian opera, Otello is a brilliant combination of music and dramaturgy — a masterpiece that is as profound philosophically as it is theatrically riveting. Shakespeare's tale of an outsider who can't control his jealousy has been carefully transformed by Arrigo Boito into a tense libretto. All three main roles are demanding — which makes staging this opera quite a challenge — but Othello's part in particular requires an incredible, natural voice, as well as musical intelligence and impressive acting skills. This challenge will be faced by one of the most prominent contemporary dramatic tenors, Brian Jagde. The cast will also see two Polish singers: Artur Ruciński in the role of the sinister Jago and Piotr Buszewski as Cassia.
