Emerging as one of the UK's most exciting Brazilian jazz groups, Djangada reimagines the music of Gilberto Gil and Dorival Caymmi through a vibrant piano trio format. Drawing inspiration from Bahia's rich Afro-Brazilian musical heritage, the trio combines the elegance of classic bossa nova with infectious grooves, inventive improvisation and contemporary jazz energy. Named after the jangada, a traditional fishing boat of Brazil's northeast coast, Djangada honours the rhythms and stories of the region while bringing them firmly into the 21st century. Pianist Sam Watts, bassist Matheus Nova and drummer Marcinho Pereira have developed a remarkable musical chemistry, performing at leading venues and festivals worldwide including the Royal Albert Hall, Ronnie Scott's, Wigmore Hall, Montreux Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival.
