Exhibition Opening: Suzanne Treister: Prophetic Dreaming | Friday

We are pleased to invite you to the first of three days of celebration of the opening of the exhibition “Suzanne Treister: Prophetic Dreaming”. Join us and take part in the first retrospective exhibition in Poland dedicated to the work of the pioneer of digital art, the Internet and new media.

The exhibition “Suzanne Treister: Prophetic Dreaming” at the Museum of Art in Łódź is the first in Poland retrospective of the work of the pioneer of digital art, the Internet and new media. The exhibition covers more than four decades of interdisciplinary activity of the artist. Visionary and critical, though not devoid of humor, Treister's projects expose the relationships that connect technology, global surveillance networks, society, power, science and mysticism.

The exhibition highlights numerous astonishing, often disturbing, predictions of future events — made possible by the insightful analysis of history and modernity that Treister has conducted since the beginning of his work. Following chronologically from the artist's early works, Prophetic Dreaming shows the diversity of her work, realized within the framework of Internet art, interactive technologies, painting, video, photography and drawing. Among her early works, the series Painting of Video Games (1989—1991) and Software (1993—1994) are presented, among others, presenting hypothetical computer applications, heralding those that shape our experience of using technology today. The exhibition also includes the latest works, such as the original HEXEN 5.0 tarot deck (2023—2025), in which Treister uses card symbolism and alchemical diagrams, analyzing the functioning of AI, the climate crisis and quantum physics.

At the center of the artist's interest is the question of how to save the world for future generations. Suzanne Treister tries to find hope for the future of the world in building grassroots communities, counterculture, and an ethic of caring. Searching among alternative belief systems, building grassroots communities, and creating worlds are just some of the measures he proposes.
