On 8 and 15 November at 2.30 pm we invite you to a unique historical walk through the necropolises of Chorzów. Outings scheduled for November will be held under the banner Memory of the City. Tickets are 10 zlotys. November 8 (Sunday) | 2:30pm | start: the main cemetery gate Adam Lapski, Chairman of the Board of the Juliusz Ligonia Lovers Association of Chorzów, together with Dr. Jacek Kurek, will talk about significant figures buried in the Catholic cemetery of St. Jadwiga Śląska parish at Drzymali Street. Recall that it is the resting place of, among others, nationalist activist and social activist Jadwiga Omańkowska, who was elected senior marshal (honorary president) of the Silesian Sejm at its first meeting on October 10, 1922. She was the second woman in the world to hold this position. Here also lies Adam Pobog Rutkowski, author of the first Polish monograph of Królewska Huta, numerous well-deserved social figures and creators for the city and Silesia, including sculptor Rajnhold Domin, national activist, tailor and publisher Wojciech Samarzewski or national-social activist Petronela Golasiowa (Golaszowa). The walk will also be an opportunity to see the interior of the cemetery chapel designed by Ludwig Schneider, as well as get acquainted with its secrets. The meeting will begin at the main cemetery gate on Drzymali Street.

15 November (Sunday) | 2:30pm | start: reception of the Metallurgical Museum in Chorzów Tomasz Owoc will show you around the picturesque, oldest cemetery in Chorzów belonging to the Evangelical-Augsburg parish. Here you will find tombstones from the 19th century. The resting place is located here by the inhabitants of the Królewska Huta of the evangelical faith. Among the most deserving are Wilhelm Wagner, doctor of medical sciences, neurosurgeon and head of the department of surgery of the Royal Hut hospital or master bricklayer Herman Hirt, creator of many tenement houses in the city, author of the design of a villa at Powstańców Street 27, where Professor Ignacy Mościcki, later President of Poland, lived. Also buried in the cemetery are brothers Theodor and Heinrich Tschentscher, who ran the photographic establishment founded by their father Julius. It was the first photographic studio in the city. Although Julius Tschentcher was also buried in this cemetery, his grave has not survived. The walk will start at the reception of the Museum.

Tickets available at the box office of the Museum or on the website: HERE We believe that our November visit to the Chorzów necropolises will become an opportunity to draw attention to the importance of the memory of people who deserve for the city in building identity and nurturing a strengthening memory. The graves of our ancestors remain the unshakable foundation on which we base our thoughts towards the future, and respect for and memory of graves is a measure of the culture of each generation and a testament to its condition.
