Mr. Tadeusz

We invite you to “Pan Tadeusz” — a performance full of music and dance, an antique musical and a noble show in one.

“Pan Tadeusz” is an obligatory position in the canon of Polish literature, everyone has heard about it, and many have read it (under school compulsion or of their own will).

What was this canonical reading about? About the dispute over the castle of the Horeszko family taken over by the Soplics, about the rejected love of Jacek Soplica, the betrayal of this bachelor, the crime on Stolnik Horeszka and finally about the fact that the next generation from the divided families managed to live better and more harmoniously.

Sławomir Narloch, writing the script of the play, gave it the subtitle “The Story of Being Part of Europe”. The artist, while reading into the Polish national epic, followed an interpretation pointing to the roots dating back to the origins of European culture, because “Pan Tadeusz” as a genre refers to the epic from ancient Greece.

Thus, the scenography and costumes refer to the ancient iconography.

The director tells:

“Pan Tadeusz” on the stage of the Olsztyn theater is a musical performance played on the stage of... an antique theater. This is a story full of human passions: lust for power, envy, lust, and sometimes about embarrassing ordinary stupidity and pettiness.

Sławomir Narloch, known to the Olsztyn audience for the realization of Stanisław Wyspiański's spectacular “Wedding”, convinces us that the world is not over yet, everything is still in our European hands and it can still be beautiful, only... We just have to work together.
