About the event

The most famous Polish poet in a fantastic version

What can happen when Adam Mickiewicz, in search of inexhaustible venom, unexpectedly finds himself in the world of his own imagination?

Mrs. Twardowska or the Fearless Adam Mickiewicz is a humorous and light-hearted story that rediscovers Mickiewicz — not as a monumental figure from textbooks, a soothsayer and author of readings, but as a living man of blood and bones. The staging takes the audience on a journey in which both young and adults will find each other. Importantly, the play symbolically refers to Mrs. Twardowska directed by Janina Kilian-Stanisławska — a production from 1945, considered the founding performance of Teatr Lalka, which at that time operated under the name Teatr Niebieskie Migdały.

A real visual feast awaits the audience, aesthetically referring to the humorous and circus fantasy works of Tim Burton. The performance also uses Sicilian puppets — dolls unique and rarely found on Polish stages, which, thanks to the masterful precision of execution, move with extraordinary expressiveness.

Excellent creators are responsible for the realization: the play is directed by Joanna Zdrada, the author of the text is Sandra Szwarc, the scenography will be prepared by Julija Skuratova, and the music will be prepared by Iwona Skwarek.

In short: Polish classics, humor, Adam Mickiewicz, reading, family performance

“Mrs. Twardowska or the fearless Adam Mickiewicz” was included in the jubilee program of the 30th edition of the International Festival of Theatres for Children and Youth KORCZAK TODAY and will take part in the festival competition.

The play takes part in the 32nd National Competition for the Exhibition of Polish Contemporary Art.

The National Competition for the Exhibition of Polish Contemporary Art aims to reward the most interesting repertory research in Polish theatre, to support domestic dramaturgy in its stage productions, to popularize Polish contemporary drama and to broaden the field of theatre criticism thanks to the presence of members of the Artistic Commission at performances in theatre centres throughout the country and their review activities.

The competition is organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute in Warsaw.
